Technology & Applications

How ibex™ Technology Works

Oil and water emulsion is pumped from the heavy oil or bitumen reservoir into an ibex™ steam generator located at the pad.

Water in the emulsion is directly converted into steam for reservoir reinjection via contact with hot circulating bitumen.  The process is simplified and extensive water treating systems are eliminated along with capital and operating costs.

The bitumen or heavy oil is treated and can be mixed with diluent for sales or optionally converted into a partially upgraded product.

The Oil heater can be fitted with CO2 Capture equipment.

Innovative Technology

Proprietary ibex™ Contactor

Hot Bitumen directly contacts emulsion at the well pad and creates 100% steam, maximizing efficiency and production.

Efficient Contaminant Removal

All contaminants become solids and are efficiently removed in the Treater, ensuring clean, high-quality steam and bitumen product.

Elimination of Conventional Water Boiler

No more water clean-up equipment and energy losses, leading to reduced GHG emissions and conservation of water, land, and energy.

Integrated Solvent Recovery

Experience further reductions in GHG emissions with integrated solvent recovery, contributing to a more sustainable operation.

Ideal Applications

Low-Cost, Low-Production New Sites

Easily achieve steam production targets at low-cost, low-production potential sites, making ibex™ the preferred choice for small, isolated reservoirs.

Debottlenecking Steam-Short Sites

ibex™ is the perfect solution for debottlenecking steam-short sites, ensuring optimal steam production and maximizing efficiency.

Ideal for “Tie-Back” Facilities

When steam must be shipped over long distances, ibex™ minimizes energy losses, making it an ideal choice for tie-back facilities.
